ZOE
A proposed structure to drive agential biology to commercial applications.
ZOE HoldCo. Founded in 2026, ZOE is incorporated as a holding company. It provides commercial avenues for viable agential biologies arising from paradigm-shifting science research.
The Science. Primary research performed at the Levin Lab at Tufts University and the Bongard Lab at the University of Vermont led to xenobots’ invention in 2020, and continuing experiments in MomBot is the prototype for a future technology that will produce agential biologies at a commercial scale.
Fauna Systems. An existing commercial entity, founded in 2025, whose mission is to marshal the novel capabilities of biobots to address fundamental challenges in human health, environmental remediation, and bio-engineering. Learn more →
* ZOE is exploring the possibility of acquiring Fauna Systems as the holdco’s first nested commercial entity.
The Institute for Computationally Designed Organisms. A field-defining Institute (the ICDO) that drives basic science research toward marketable applications, spinning off target-specific companies for which Fauna Systems is the primary model. As a 501(c)(3), ICDO would additionally convene the science community around biobots and act as the public-facing vehicle to introduce agential materials to the world.
Future Companies. Future companies held by ZOE would capitalize on research developed at the ICDO. Proposed entities include Company 2, emphasizing the hardware of computational agential biology (~10 years), and Company 3, intermingling genetic engineering (CRISPR) with agential biology’s established activations at the cellular level (~30 years).
